Fudge Brownies with Amaretto Frosting

If you like rich and gooey, fudge-like brownies topped with icing ~ these are your brownies!

Fudge Brownies with Amaretto Frosting

Ingredients:

4 squares of unsweetened chocolate

½ cup butter

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

1 cup granulated sugar

3 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1½ cups all-purpose flour

½ tsp. salt

1 cup chopped walnuts

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Butter 9 x 13 baking pan.

In a microwaveable bowl, melt butter. Add chocolate.

Stir until chocolate melts.

Move buttery chocolate to a mixing bown. Add both sugars. Stir.

Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well.

Add flour, salt and nuts. Stir.

Spread batter in buttered pan.

Bake until brownies begin to pull away from the pan.  Approximately 20 to 25 minutes.  Remove from oven to cooling rack.

 

Frosting

Ingredients:

¾ cup evaporated milk

½ lb. bittersweet chocolate, chopped

6 T. unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup powdered sugar, shifted

1 tsp. vanilla extract

½ jigger of Amaretto Liqueur (Optional… But go ahead and be wild!)

Directions:

In a quart-sized glass measuring cup, microwave evaporated milk on high for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add chocolate.  Whisk until smooth.

 Let cool in ice-water bath, stirring until very cold and just thickened.  Approximately, 10 to 13 minutes.  Set aside.

In an electric mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy.

Gradually mix in sugar.  Add vanilla. Mix. Add chocolate mixture. Beat on medium until thick and creamy. Add Amaretto. Mix.

Frost brownies.

Serves 12 – 16
