Heavenly Onion Soup
Like French Onion Soup but made with Chicken Bouillon and Gouda Cheese. Which makes it more delicious than French Onion Soup!
5 large white onions
1/4 cup olive oil
2 T. butter
Salt and pepper to taste
2 T. sugar
64 oz. chicken broth
6 slices of French Bread
6 slices of Gouda cheese
Peel and slice onions. Cut to avoid rings.
Sautés in oil, stirring frequently until onions are translucent and tender. About 15 minutes on medium/low heat.
Add butter. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add sugar. Heat Chicken Broth in a saucepan. Add onions.
Trim bread slices to fit in ovenproof cups. Toast lightly.
Ladle soup into cups. Place bread on top.
Top with cheese.
Place in broiler for a minute or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve sizzling.
