The Last Child Support Payment

by The Internet

Winston Hardwick, III, was sitting at his mahogany desk in the grand library of his New York high-rise condo, when the butler walked in.

“Excuse me Sir, but your daughter Victoria is downstairs.”

Winston ripped a check out of his checkbook and waved it in the air. “Today is a great day. It’s Victoria’s 18th birthday. Making this the last child support payment I will ever have to make to her mother!”

The Butler gave a stiff, half bow. “Congratulations Sir.”

Winston exhaled, then stood, preening. “Month after month, year after year, all those payments! So, when you show her up, I’m going to tell her to take this check to her mother and tell her this is the last check she will ever receive from me. Then I want her come back and describe the look on her mother’s face.”

Again the butler never flinched. Instead he bowed again. “Very good Sir. I’ll show her right up.”

Three hours later, the butler escorted Victoria back to the library.

She left a minute later.

Within seconds, the Butler heard hard, racking sobs emanating from the library.

After an hour or so, even the stiff, formal Butler couldn’t stand it any more.

He knocked gently on the library door.

“Come in.”

The Butler saw Winston Hardwick, III wiping his red-rimmed eyes.

Flustered, the Butler quietly stepped back, intending to close the door.

But, Winston stopped him. “You know what Victoria said?”

Winston swiped his nose with his monogrammed handkerchief then stuffed it back in his pocket. “Her mother told her to tell me that I wasn’t her Daddy… and then watch my expression.”

Yes… It’s a Classic!
