by Karen Ekstrom

Ingredients

6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cloves

1/4 salt

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons butter

Pie Crust (Either homemade or store bought)

Directions

Preheat oven to 450.

The secret to making the world’s best apple pie is to take 1 to 2 cups of the Granny Smith apples and chop them up into small – pea sized – pieces. This cooks up into the wonderful, mushy apple goo that makes an apple pie fabulous!

In large bowl, combine apple slices with lemon juice.

Place apple filling in a deep dish, pastry lined, 9 inch pan. Dot top of filling with butter.

Trim overhanging edge 1/4 inch away from rim of pan.

Cut second pie crust into long strips. Weave pastry strips across top of pie. (Moisten edge of pie dough with water to seal edges and flute edge.)

Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes, continue baking at 375 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until crust is nicely brown and juice begins to bubble through the slits in crust. Cover pie loosely with foil if crust is getting too brown.
