I Call It, “The Quote of the Day”

The Situation: Family is finishing dinner. Barrett, my grandson, is 8 years old.

Me: “Barrett, who is your best friend?”

Barrett: “Well, it was this boy named Tyler. But now, it’s Savannah. She’s my girlfriend.”

Me: “Oh,” My eyebrows hit the roof. I suppress a grin and dig further. “Does Savannah know she’s your girlfriend?

Barrett: “Yes, I told her I loved her.”

Me: “Oh really.” I’m salivating now. “How did she respond?”

Barrett: “Ahhhh…,” A blank look covers his face. His eyes swing to the sky obviously searching his brain.  A moment passes. Finally he turns to me and says, “I don’t remember.”
