Gramma Quetta’s Cinnamon Rolls
Hot, Sugary & Delicious

by Karen Ekstrom

A family that bakes together, stays together!

Quetta started a family tradition. Making cinnamon rolls to be enjoyed on Christmas morning. She gathered all the kids and everyone helped! Now, even though she’s gone, that tradition continues…

(But don’t wait for the holidays. This recipe is so easy and delicious, you will want to make it all the time!)

Ingredients:

Ingredients:

3/4 cup Crisco

1 cup boiling water or scalded milk (I use boiling water)

2 eggs beaten

3/4 cup sugar

2 tsp. salt

1 cup of water

2 cakes (packets) yeast

1/2 cup lukewarm water

7 1/2 cups shifted flour

Filling:

1 cup sugar

¼  cup cinnamon

  1 tsp. nutmeg

½ cup butter

Icing:

2 cups Powdered Sugar

4 to 5 T. Orange Juice (or vanilla or anything)

Directions:

The Day Before:

1) Combine Crisco and boiling water, stir until Crisco is melted.

2) Combine eggs, sugar and salt and beat in cold water.

3) Soften yeast in lukewarm water.

Combine these three. Mix. Shift flour. Add to mixture. Cover and chill overnight.

Next Morning:

Break in half. (Just for ease in handling) Sprinkle flour on wax paper. Roll out thin and flat.

Press ½ filling mixture and lots of little pieces of butter in and roll up, cut into roll sizes. Do the same to the other half of dough. Place rolls in buttered pan. Let rolls rise in a warm place, covered with a towel.

(Really, you can use as much as you like. The more you use, the more sugary, cinnamon-y, it is!)

Roll up. Cut thick or thin, however you like them. Put in a buttered pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 -25 minutes or until golden brown.

While baking, add Powdered sugar with small amount of vanilla or orange juice or anything.  Mix. (Get all the lumps out.) Pour on hot rolls.

Makes 2 dozen cinnamon rolls

I loved your Mom! (And, I still haven’t recovered from seeing and enjoying her dinning room table that was covered in sweet delights! She was the best!)
